{"id":143,"date":"2008-10-04T14:21:09","date_gmt":"2008-10-04T19:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moriahjovan.com\/mojo\/?p=143"},"modified":"2025-07-25T23:20:42","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T04:20:42","slug":"kansas-city-lds-temple-coming-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/moriahjovan.com\/talesofdunham\/blog\/kansas-city-lds-temple-coming-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"Kansas City:  LDS temple coming soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So today at <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/General_conference_(Latter_Day_Saints)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">General Conference<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20081005101427\/http:\/\/mormontimes.com\/around_church\/general_authority\/?id=3974\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announcement was made<\/a> that the greater Kansas City metro area would have a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lds_temple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">temple<\/a> of its own soon.<\/p>\n<p>For my non-LDS readers, what this means basically is that the second coming of Christ is right around the corner. (Kidding. Well. Kind of.) Thing is, I\u2019d be a lot happier about this if I didn\u2019t think that half the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mormon_Corridor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mormon corridor<\/a> will be packing their bags come Monday to move here to prepare for aforementioned second coming. (And by the way, we don\u2019t believe in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rapture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rapture version<\/a> of the second coming.)<\/p>\n<p>See, Independence, Missouri, is in the greater KC metro area and it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090308011313\/http:\/\/www.indepmo.org\/Tourism\/mormon_sites.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">significant to our religious history<\/a>. During my incarceration in Provo, Utah, I realized that very few LDS, however, know that Independence is in KC because, well, nothing LDS exists east of the Rockies. And now that a new temple has been announced, they\u2019ll all Google and figure it out and then oh noes! Here come the Saints back east dragging their handcarts behind them.<\/p>\n<p>And if you do hit eastbound I-70, I-80, and I-90 running, prepare for tarring and feathering at the state line because the evangelical\/born-again Christians still aren\u2019t over that whole cult thing&#8211;like, they\u2019re RABIDLY not over that whole cult thing.<\/p>\n<p>Really, I\u2019m happy we don\u2019t have to drive 4 hours to St. Louis or Nauvoo, or 3 to Omaha to go to the temple and we have a built-in babysitter (grandma). Maybe I\u2019m wrong about the impending mass immigration, given how the economy is right now. But really, folks, stay in Utah and Arizona and Idaho and Nevada and California. If you do come here, learn how to pronounce Olathe.<\/p>\n<p>Now the question on everybody\u2019s mind is: Where will it be built?
