King Henry V, Earl Grimme Kyneward\u2019s only protection from his liege, the evil and illegitimate Duke Sheffield, has perished. Henry VI, a mere infant, succeeds the throne and the people ruling England aren\u2019t paying attention to two warring English nobles in the northern climes. There are no Scots involved in this border war.<\/p>\n

Even with most of his army gone to France, Kyneward can hold off a siege by Sheffield. He has a secret weapon and an unconventional ally to help him wipe out both Sheffield\u2019s attacking army and his dukedom. What Kyneward can\u2019t<\/em><\/strong> do is fend off a heretofore unknown Sheffield ally from the south with three times his force and better siege engines.<\/p>\n

With Raven in ruins, most of their family dead, land burnt and salted, animals stolen, the rightful Duke of Sheffield on the brink of madness, Grimme half blind, and Br\u00ecghde pregnant, the three must find a way to survive alone, without their people, animals, or money, after having been brutally punished for daring to defeat Sheffield\u2014but they have to survive the winter first.<\/p>\n

From England to Italy and back again, Grimme and Br\u00ecghde Kyneward and the rightful heir to Sheffield embark upon a journey to rebuild and return for vengeance for themselves and their family.<\/p>\n

Leaving the three of them alive was a punishment\u2014and a mistake.<\/p>\n
