Cross Stitch

I do not generally “finish” my projects as pillows, ornaments, framed works, or display them. I have a treasure box I store them in. I fold them up in acid-free tissue and keep them there, guarding them and looking at them like a dragon guards and counts his gold. For me, it is about the process and the finish line, not the “finish” and displaying. I also design cross stitch patterns and sell them on Etsy.

Man & Wife, 2006.
I did this for my husband.
Stocking, 2005.
I did this for my mom.
Wedding Sampler, 2005. Rebecca & Mac
version. I have stitched this 4 times and I
keep it kitted up. But now it’s 25 years later.
All my friends have married (or not) and I no
longer like this pattern. Yet, I keep it.
THIS one won first prize at the Missouri
State Fair.
Wedding Sampler, 2005. Rebecca & Mac
version. This is the back. It’s traditional
embroidery.
Mother & Child, 2004. I did this for my
daughter’s birth, but ended up not liking it
when I was finished. I sold it on eBay.
Bouquet, 2003. I did a piece for a friend (next
image), and I liked the bouquet on the piano
so much I did it again. I ended up selling
this on eBay because I needed the money.
Love Songs, 2001. I did this for a friend on
commission. I liked the flowers so much I did
just that on the green linen (previous image).
Chevalier Tapestry, 2001. See In Parts above.
I should’ve done that like this.
Wedding Sampler, 2000,
Nick & Katherine version.
Guardian Angel, 1999. I did this on commission
for a friend I no longer have (same as green
winter angel below). I don’t remember if she
gifted it to someone or not.
Baby Sampler, 1997. I did this for a coworker.
Lace Heart, 1997, on sweatshirt using waste

Spring Angel, 1989. I gave this to my mom.
This ALSO won first prize at the Missouri
State Fair.
Winter Angel, 1988. I gave this to a friend who
adored it. That friendship is no longer
(same friend as the Guardian Angel above)
and sometimes I wonder what she did with it.
English Fairy, 1988. I bought this in Thirsk,
England, home of James Herriott, he of ALL
CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL. Though I
was NOT bored when we were wandering
Europe, I WAS bored on the flight home.
English Rose, 1988. I got this in Thirsk also, but
I did this in the evenings once we’d retired
to our lodgings (not hotel) for the night.
Welcome, 1988
Beehive, 1986. I got this kit in Hannibal,
Missouri, on a family weekend jaunt. It was
the first kit I’d ever had.
Boy Studying, 1984
Girl with Doll, 1984
Ring Around the Rosy, 1984
Jesus Loves Me, 1984. I made this for a teacher
who, upon reflection, probably didn’t like me
very much, but I was always seeking her
approval.

Chiefs afghan

I made this because I wanted to figure out how to do an entrelac pattern of Tunisian stitch, which is my favorite. My favorite colors are red and yellow or yellow and red, depending on the day. It took me a minute to get the rhythm of it, and I made a lot of mistakes, but once I got started, I couldn’t stop, so this thing is huge, it’s heavy, and it now belongs to my husband because … It so happens that red and yellow are also the Kansas City Chiefs colors, and my husband is a rabid Chiefs fan (I’m just a fair-weather fan), so he insisted it was a Chiefs afghan. It is not, but I decided to play like it is. This is the last thing I finished. I started a different crochet project (not Tunisian), but got tired of it, so it’s in my closet.

Drawing

I took art classes at the local juco, fall 2021 semester. I had “design foundations” and “drawing 1,” where I was just picking up where I left off in 1986, senior year in high school art. Then life happened and I never got back to it.

I took art classes at the local juco Fall 2021
for a few weeks before I had to withdraw
because life. I took “design foundations,”
which I didn’t know was for graphic design
majors. This is my first assignment, lines
and circles, and how to make them interesting.
