IF YOU ARE UNDER 18, ANNOUNCE IT TO THE ROOM. We do writing sprints, called CHALLENGES. They work like this: Someone cracks a whip and those who are challenging start writing. At the end of 20 mins, the whip cracks again and we post how much we’ve written and a snippet of what we wrote. You aren’t required to challenge or share. You can just sit around and watch, chat or poke fun at your neighbors. If you pop in and no one seems to respond, you can use *beep* to get people’s attention. TO JOIN A ROOM: On the right of the chat window, there is a list of genres and special interests. Double click to enter. AD HOC ROOMS: If you don’t see a room in the list that meets your needs, feel free to create a new room and, if you like, password-protect it. To do this, look at the bottom of the room list. WriteChat is just a chat room for writers to…write. And chat. And share. And be pushed and spanked and whipped into accountability. It is for all genres and subgenres and subsubsubgenres.

It didn’t start out as a brainchild or a proactive movement. It started out as a reaction that turned into a thought that turned into action and with time and luck, will hopefully turn into a thriving community.

I am Elizabeth Beeton (aka Moriah Jovan) of B10 Mediaworx. I own the domain name and set up the site with some donated funds (financials below). You can reach me at esb10@b10mediaworx.com. This site isn’t to promote either my writing or my publishing company, which is why neither is linked.

While the chat room is open to anyone, registration is required so I don’t have to spend every waking moment fighting spam and trolls. If you have an online presence of any type, you know what I’m talking about.

Corollary: I barely moderate. Anything. Ever. About the only thing I object to (that I can think of at the moment; there may be more) is sharing kiddie porn and/or links. I cut my internet teeth on the unmoderated newsgroups of UseNet and the chat rooms of IRC way back in the day and I have no stomach for telling adults how to behave. So it’ll probably be wild and woolly for a while until like wills to like.

There will be announcements from time to time, but I’ll use the blog to post those. Please bear with me while I smooth out the rough spots in this new endeavor. I have a feeling I’m not the only one for whom it’ll be new.
